Medical Detox: Supportive, Comfortable and Safe
Detoxification from drugs and/or alcohol is the first phase of recovery. We understand the pain, intensity and danger of withdrawal symptoms, and how difficult it can be to think about overcoming them. In fact, because withdrawal is one of the main impediments to recovery, we believe it is important to make detox as comfortable as possible. That’s why we work with a medically monitored detox, conducted by experienced detox specialists. Speak Confidentially with a Promises Scottsdale Recovery Advisor at 888-478-0036.
What Happens During Detox?
Detoxification is the process of allowing the body to rid itself of any remaining substances. During this process, you may begin to experience physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms, which will vary greatly from drug to drug and person to person.
The most physically uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms tend to occur when coming off of alcohol, tranquilizers and opiates, and may include: sweating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, shaking, chills, headache, fatigue and chest tightness. Psychological symptoms may also occur, but tend to be most difficult when stopping the use of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy, and may include: anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, irritability and mood swings.
Rest assured that as your brain and body adjust, the detox specialists be on the lookout for any of these symptoms, and adjust your medications for the specific dangers and discomforts associated with your unique health and substance abuse history. Detox is the first, and most important step toward sobriety, and at Promises Scottsdale our goal is to offer the highest level of support, comfort and safety. Every Detox Is Unique
Before detox there it is important to answer all questions honestly during the assessment. Your recovery team will evaluate your level of intensity and struggle with addiction along with your health history and determine the most effective strategy based on your unique needs. The detox specialists will customize treatment based on types of drugs used, dosage, and length of abuse so as to keep you as comfortable as possible. For most people, the detox physicians will administer the safest and most effective medications to ease any withdrawal symptoms you experience in the process. These are short-term medications designed to ease your transition into sobriety.
Most of those receiving services finish drug/alcohol detox within the first three to seven days. However, our emphasis is on supporting a detox experience aimed at your long-term success in recovery, and not on the length of time it takes. We want all our clients to understand that some people experience post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS), and during your stay at Promises Scottsdale we will monitor for any reappearing symptoms.
Even after detox, when you are in the residential treatment period at Promises Scottsdale, we incorporate several alternative therapies that have shown to be helpful during early sobriety. Acupuncture has proven beneficial for the withdrawal symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, pain and digestive problems, which may arise during detox. Many also benefit from neurofeedback, which facilitates healthier brain patterns while reducing pain, anxiety, drug cravings and improving sleep. We also employ massage therapy to ease muscle tension and increase clarity as you begin your recovery work.
We believe our holistic approach rallies more of the body’s healing resources, while making the transition to sobriety as painless and safe as possible so you can focus on the work of recovery ahead. Speak Confidentially with a Promises Scottsdale Recovery Advisor at 888-478-0036.
