Treatment for Primary Mental Health Disorders
We are specially licensed and trained to treat a range of mental health disorders, whether these occur with or without addiction. These include conditions such as anxiety, love addiction, intimacy disorders, personality disorders, depression and other mood disorders. You’ll work with our psychiatric team and master’s level clinicians to learn how to manage mental health conditions and address underlying issues that may contribute to them.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Addictions and eating disorders often co-occur with one or more mental health issues. Through biopsychosocial assessments, our multidisciplinary team identifies underlying conditions that are fueling addiction and eating disorders and develops treatment plans that address co-occurring conditions. Clients participate in regular individual and group therapy to process emotions and experiences and develop new, recovery-promoting coping skills and relapse prevention strategies.
We offer a blend of treatment options that includes traditional therapies and holistic methods, delivered by therapists with diverse backgrounds and therapeutic approaches. To find the best approach for each client, we draw on 12-step recovery, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, as well as a wide range of holistic therapies.
To treat body, mind and spirit, our therapists draw on several forms of mindfulness and creative approaches such as guided meditation, yoga and art therapy. We also offer specialized services, ranging from equine therapy to BrainPaint®, a noninvasive neurofeedback technique. Learn more about our therapies and approaches.
What Is Dual Diagnosis?
When a person suffers from alcohol or drug addiction, love addiction or eating disorders, accompanying mental or emotional disorders that are contributing to the addiction are known as co-occurring or co-morbid disorders. These conditions include conditions like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Individuals suffering from these illnesses often turn to alcohol, drugs or other destructive behaviors to ease the symptoms of their underlying disorder. At many treatment centers, addiction and mental illness are treated separately. At Promises Scottsdale, we take an integrated approach that addresses the addiction and underlying mental health issues together. Our approach is grounded in scientific evidence, which shows that drug rehab treatment is most effective when it addresses both substance abuse and any underlying mental health disorders. Our clinicians are licensed and trained to treat various types of psychiatric conditions; they have diverse backgrounds and skill sets in many types of psychotherapy, as well as a wide assortment of alternative strategies.
Specialized Treatment for Co-Occurring Eating Disorders
The National Eating Disorders Association reports that half of people with eating disorders also have substance abuse issues. This is five times higher than substance abuse rates in the general population. To meet the unique needs of clients struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and other disordered eating behaviors along with substance abuse, we offer specialized treatment that addresses all of these challenges simultaneously.
Clients receive expert medical and behavioral health care to help heal the physical and emotional wounds of eating disorders. Our treatment team includes a dietitian with over 20 years of experience treating eating disorders as well as master’s level clinicians that help clients address the issues that contribute to addictions and eating disorders like trauma, relationship issues, unhealthy attachment styles and sociocultural factors. Clients begin to transform their relationship with food from a means to cope and control to a way to fuel and nourish the body and mind. They begin developing self-love and acceptance and heal from the issues that perpetuate destructive thought and behavior patterns.
*For admission to Promises Scottsdale, clients must be nutritionally restored with a minimum BMI of 16.
